Let us be your steadfast companions as you embark on this journey of self-discovery and transformation.
How does the STAR program work?
Your strategic toolkit for active recovery.
Step 1: Collate and identify
The first step in the STAR method is to simply start! You initiate your journey by engaging in an open and non-judgemental conversation with your dedicated psychosocial recovery coach. Together, you explore the various facets of your life journey, with a particular focus on your mental health. You will use all ends of the spectrum, the good and the not-so-good, to identify and isolate what affects you emotionally.
Step 2: Make a menu
Yep, make a menu. Building on the insights gained in the first step, you begin crafting a personalised menu of options that will serve as a lifeline to support your wellbeing. Think of this menu as a range of options filled with strategies you can readily access whenever you feel the need to. So when you begin to feel yourself becoming unwell, you can select an item off your menu that will best help you when you need it most.
Step 3: Your personalised plan
You have now created your valuable resource, your menu and lifeline options, you now progress to a critical phase of the STAR method. Here, your coach assist you in carefully considering the key components of your life's journey so far. Together, you strategically pair elements from your menu and the emotional triggers you've identified in Step 1.
This step ensures that you establish a strong plan of action by matching your menu options to your unique challenges. This alignment prepares you for the next phase, where you'll be ready to implement your Strategic Toolkit for Active Recovery when life's storms inevitably arise.
Step 4: Action for life's challenges
Life isn't always smooth sailing; we all encounter storms along the way. This step is specifically tailored to help you weather these storms. Building upon the insights and preparations from Steps 1, 2, and 3, you and your coach collaboratively develop a plan of action for those challenging moments when it feels like "the wheels have fallen off". This phase is all about proactive, preventative maintenance.
Your coach assists you in identifying potential triggers and emotional hurdles, drawing from your pre-selected toolkit elements. Together, you outline strategies and responses designed to mitigate the impact of these challenges and help you regain control. This phase ensures that, even during life's most difficult moments, you have a clear roadmap for managing your emotional wellbeing, ultimately building resilience and empowering your journey towards lasting recovery.
It's all biopsychosocial
How we consider the biological, psychological and social influences for our wellbeing.
You may have heard the term Biopsychosocial (bio-psycho-social) but what does it mean? The term refers to a comprehensive approach that recognises the intricate interplay between our biology, psychology, and social environment, all of which collectively influence our health and personal development. It acknowledges that our wellbeing is not solely determined by one aspect but rather by the dynamic interaction of these three dimensions.
It means our physical health, mental wellbeing, and social interactions are all interconnected and can impact each other. For instance, our biology, including genetics and physical health, can influence our mental state, which in turn affects our social interactions, and vice versa.
Within the context of the STAR method, we place significant emphasis on integrating the principles of the Biosychosocial Model. By considering all these facets, we create a tool that takes into account the complexities of human experiences, helping participants navigate their unique journeys towards recovery by addressing the interconnected nature of their biology, psychology, and social world.
